Maintenance
Cleaning and Flossing
Proper cleaning and flossing are an essential part of maintaining good oral hygiene. Though bi-annual professional dental cleanings remove plaque, tarter and debris, excellent homecare methods are equally valuable. Adults over 35 years of age lose more teeth to gum diseases, (periodontal disease) than from cavities. The best way to avoid both cavities and periodontal disease is by thorough tooth brushing and flossing techniques practiced daily. During your routine dental exams, to ensure that you are optimizing your at home oral care, one of our highly trained staff will review these techniques with you.
Brushing
Because we have seen a marked improvement in the mouths of our patients who use the Sonicare electric toothbrush, we highly recommend it to all our patients. The Sonicare has patented “Sonicare technology” that creates powerful, yet gentle dynamic cleaning action that reaches deep between the teeth and along the gum line. The Sonicare has been clinically proven to reduce 20% more plaque than a manual toothbrush, thus greatly reducing the risk of periodontal disease.
Flossing
Periodontal disease usually appears between the teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. Flossing is a very effective way to get below the gum line where the bacteria and plaque resides. To maintain optimal oral health, you should floss at least once daily.
